Port Authority Received $7 Million Maritime Assistance Program Grant from Ohio Department of Transportation

TOLEDO, Ohio, December 9, 2021 – The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority is a recipient of a $7 million grant awarded through the Ohio Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) Maritime Assistance Program (MAP). These grant funds will allow the Port Authority to purchase a new bulk material conveyor system at the Port of Toledo’s general cargo facility, operated by Midwest Terminals of Toledo. The grant will also provide additional funding for the terminal’s ongoing dock wall rehabilitation and liquid transloading project, which has been impacted by recent increases in material and labor costs.

“We are grateful our partners at the Ohio Department of Transportation see the value in helping us improve and modernize a valuable asset in Northwest Ohio,” said Thomas J. Winston, President and CEO of the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority. “With the acquisition of the new material conveyance system, we will have the ability to move product much more efficiently throughout the terminal complex, including moving various weather sensitive material directly into dry warehouse storage.”

The funding received from the Maritime Assistance Program will be matched with federal funds obtained through the U.S. Maritime Administration’s Port Infrastructure Development Grant Program. Since the inception of the ODOT MAP in 2020, the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority has been awarded over $17 million through the state program leveraged by $16 million in federal funding.
