Port Authority has Record Year for Bond Financing in 2022

TOLEDO, Ohio, January 26, 2023 – The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority provided over $88 million in financing during 2022 to various organizations across the region through its multiple financing programs, resulting in the creation of over 800 new jobs. The Port Authority’s Northwest Ohio Bond Fund (NWOBF) saw a record year with the issuance of $38 million across five separate projects. Additionally, eight U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) 504 Loans were approved and/or closed totaling $6.375 million, and five Ohio Regional 166 Loans were approved and/or closed totaling $4.1 million. Both the SBA 504 and Ohio Regional 166 programs are managed and administered through the Port Authority Financing Program offerings.

Port Authority Reports Increase in Annual Tonnage at the Port of Toledo in 2022

TOLEDO, Ohio, January 24, 2023 – The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority is proud to announce a 2.24 percent increase in tonnage through the Port of Toledo in 2022, when compared to 2021. A total of 11,684,394 short tons traveled through the Port of Toledo last year – the highest tonnage the seaport has seen since 2007. The Port set a record for aluminum handled at the General Cargo Dock, operated by Midwest Terminals, and grain had the strongest year-over-year growth with an increase of 14.79 percent over 2021. 2022 was also the first full operating season for the Cleveland-Cliffs’ Toledo Direct Reduction Plant, driving iron ore tonnage up nearly five percent from the previous year.

TOLEDO, Ohio, August 25, 2022 – The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority recently engaged the Bowling Green State University’s (BGSU) Center for Regional Development (CRD) to conduct an economic impact analysis for the Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport (TOL) and the Toledo Executive Airport (TDZ). The study highlights that in 2021 TOL supported over 2,900 jobs and over $581 million in economic output in the Toledo Region, while TDZ supported an additional 44 jobs and over $6.6 million in economic output.

Allegiant Begins New Service to Phoenix-Mesa, Arizona from Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport

TOLEDO, Ohio, March 9, 2022 – The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority today celebrated the new service between Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport (TOL) and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (AZA) on Allegiant. With the addition of the Phoenix-Mesa route, Allegiant now offers nonstop, low-cost flights to four cities out of TOL.

TOLEDO, Ohio, January 13, 2022 – The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority is proud to announce a 22-percent increase in tonnage through the Port of Toledo in 2021, when compared to 2020. A total of 11,428,753 short tons traveled through the Port of Toledo last year – the highest tonnage the seaport has seen since 2011. The Port of Toledo also set a record for the most aluminum handled in a season totaling nearly 276,000 short tons. Additionally, iron ore tonnage at the Port of Toledo was the highest reported since 1979. The increase in iron ore is mainly attributed to the commencement in the operations of the new Cleveland-Cliffs Toledo Direct Reduction Plant at Ironville Terminal.

Port Authority Received $7 Million Maritime Assistance Program Grant from Ohio Department of Transportation

TOLEDO, Ohio, December 9, 2021 – The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority is a recipient of a $7 million grant awarded through the Ohio Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) Maritime Assistance Program (MAP). These grant funds will allow the Port Authority to purchase a new bulk material conveyor system at the Port of Toledo’s general cargo facility, operated by Midwest Terminals of Toledo. The grant will also provide additional funding for the terminal’s ongoing dock wall rehabilitation and liquid transloading project, which has been impacted by recent increases in material and labor costs.

Port Authority Welcomes New Amazon Air Gateway Operation at Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport

TOLEDO, Ohio, March 18, 2021 – The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority is proud to welcome a new Amazon Air gateway at Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport (TOL). Amazon Air’s Toledo Gateway is anticipated to create more than 50 new jobs and will service daily flights, supporting fast, free shipping for Amazon customers in Ohio and throughout the region. Amazon’s first plane arrived at TOL last night at 10:36 p.m. and departed TOL at 8:57 a.m. this morning.

TOLEDO, Ohio, February 19, 2021 – The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced yesterday the award of a $2.4 million CARES Act Recovery Assistance Grant to the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority to create a Revolving Loan Fund for businesses in Northwest Ohio. The EDA grant will be matched with $600,000 in local investment in establishing a $3 million loan fund.
